Lucali

It’s Monday the 26th now and I’ve officially been here for 1 week now and loving every bit of the sunshine and sea breeze here in Miami.

We have a busy day planned ahead of us for this afternoon with a trip to Wynwood Walls to see the art mural exhibit and watch the Miami Heat vs Chicago Bulls in the evening but first order of business for today is a trip out to Sunset Harbour to visit Lucali. This rustic styled eatery has a wood fire brick oven and serving classic Italian antipasti dishes.

Today was a very warm afternoon and as we arrived the restaurant was starting to get filled with customers on their outdoor tables but luckily we were able to find a spot inside the restaurant where we could see their wood fire brick oven cooking some pies for the restaurant.

We stated our meal with the artichoke cooked 2 ways: plain baked in olive oil and the lucali special baked with pomodoro sauce and cheese. Both were good and tasty but I preferred the simpler version as it resonated what I used to eat at various trattoria’s around Italy when I was studying for my Masters at Pollenzo.

The watercress salad with seasonal fruits which were pears was brilliant. The salad had a light olive oil citrus dressing and topped with some goat cheese was so easy to eat that we emptied out the plate in no time.

We ordered one pie with pepperoni and mushrooms toppings and it was large enough to feed an army. The dough was super thin which is what I prefer and the smoke from the wood fire complimented the pizza well.

We also had an order of chicken wings which was a perfect example of an “Italian-American” merging of flavors and ingredients.

Overall this was such a fun experience and I would definitely go back for more Lucali the next time I’m around the neighborhood.

Our next #KULINARYATRAVELS will be our 2nd to the last for this Miami series and we will be stopping by at Bodega Taqueria y Tequila….
