Estrellita

After a fun morning hike and lunch, I’m off now for some afternoon activities before our dinner reservation. I started to head directly to the common grounds complex located at 550 Somerset Terrace NE for a fun session trying out Illuminarium. This is a virtual 3-dimension experience where the whole room is in a digital surrounding of the certain theme. For today I was able to experience WILD SAFARI which focused on Kenya and South Africa.

The screen would focus on a certain terrain and surrounding climate, and you get to experience the jungle through all your senses. From elephants to lions to flamingos and all in between it was such a unique show to watch. My favorite was either the lions who were enjoying the spoils of their hunt and the gators calmly navigating the waters. After the show it was so cool to visit the New Realm Brewery which was just next door and I met some of the staff who gave me a nice tour of the brewery. I was able to try the Munich Dunkel dark lager and the Hazy Fox IPA which both beers got me ready for my evening meal.

Estrellita Atlanta is one of the pioneer Filipino restaurants in the area and has pushed for Filipino food and culture to be recognized here. Located at 580 Woodward Avenue SE it has been slowly etching a name out for Philippine cuisine out here since last year.

Their dishes showcase the uniqueness and depth of Philippine cuisine in layers of talent and execution.

I started with the “chicharron manok” or crispy fried chicken skin with the spiced vinegar which was a perfect way to remind me that I’m Filipino ☺

Next dish was the bone marrow served with toasted pan de sal which was a game changer. The bone marrow was perfectly cooked and the maldon pepper gave the flavor more depth.

The oxtail kare kare was my entrée of choice and this was braised to perfection and the sauce had the correct consistency.

The ube sorbetes with turon just simply brought me back to my childhood memories.

Thank you Estrellita for representing our cuisine here in Atlanta…
